Students' willingness to pursue online learning and their relationship to achievement need to be studied. Technical competence, social competence with lecturers and friends and communication skills are among the factors that students are prepared to pursue online learning. However, not much empirical evidence is obtained from studies on the influence of these variables on students’ proficiency in Arabic. Therefore, this study was conducted to analyze the influence of the four factors of online learning readiness on students’ proficiency in Arabic. In addition, this study also aims to identify the most important factors that need to be given priority. A total of 220 questionnaires were distributed to UiTM Degree students and out of that, 214 data were used after the data cleaning process. The analysis using SmartPLS 3.0 software showed social competence factor with lecturers (β=0.328, t=3.796, p<0.01, f2=0.082) and communication competence (β=0.222, t=2.259, p<0.05, f2=0.042) positively influenced students’ proficiency in Arabic. Social competence with peers and technical competence were found to have no effect on students’ proficiency in Arabic. Based on the results of IPMA analysis in PLS, social competence with lecturers is the most important factor affecting students’ proficiency in Arabic followed by communication competence factor. The active contact of students with lecturers, followed by active communication in learning, were the important variables influencing students' motivation to pursue online Arabic learning. In order to achieve more meaningful learning and excellence in Arabic study, both of these criteria must be prioritised.
Maryam Abdul Rahman Muhammad Nazri Rostam Kamariah Abdul Rahman Al Muslim Mustapa @ Ab. Anyway, in Malaysia STEM education still focus in both primary and secondary schools. This was stated in the Malaysian Education Blueprint (2013-2015) in which STEM education would strengthen the science subjects in our country. However, the main issue related to STEM education in Malaysia is students' lack of interest in science subjects. The factors that contribute to students’ lack of interest in STEM are students' anxieties and difficulties in getting good grades in STEM, declining PISA performance, and teachers' teaching approach. Many studies that show integrating arts in STEM, which is known as STEAM education, is a critical education model for enhancing STEM. The United States, Korea, and New Zealand have already implemented the model in their education system. This literature review aims to introduce the STEAM framework and its importance for students and teachers. It examines the findings, discussions, and recommendations of collected STEM/STEAM research works from 2006 to 2021 based on positive impact of STEAM on students' achievement, cognitive development, creativity, and ability in problem-solving. STEAM education is still new in Malaysia and if it were to be implemented in Malaysia, policymakers will need to develop a curriculum, professional development for teachers, and materials to ensure that it can be implemented successfully in Malaysia.
kayshi Seetoo Ng Siew Foen ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2022-10-31 2022-10-31 5 2 29 43 10.47254/insaniah.v5i2.204 Strategies in Translation of Geographical Names in the Novel Journey to the West
Translating proper names could be challenging as they contain aspects of historical, semantic, geographical, or social meanings of a particular culture. Such problems are extended to the translation of geographical names in which a mistranslation may confuse the readers and jeopardize (the entire) translation as a result of “unsuccessful rendition” of a place name. This study explored the types of geographical names in the classic novel Journey to the West, described how these names were translated into English, and sought to what extent the meanings of the names were retained in the TL. This qualitative study adapted Urazmetova and Shamsutdinova (2017), and Fernandes’ (2006) frameworks in identifying the types of geographical names and translation procedures. The findings showed that geographical names could be divided into natural and man-made, while the major procedures in the translation of geographical names were rendition, transposition, and mixed procedure. Although, some minor loss of meaning in translations was identified, the frameworks were found effective (i.e., successful rendition) in retaining most of the original meanings, as well as the analysis of geographical names and the translation of proper names. Translation researchers could further investigate translation solutions for translating names by exploring the interrelations between language, culture, and translation through tackling the translation problems.
Mansour Amini Shin Rue Goh Tian Yi Liu Latha Ravindran ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2022-10-31 2022-10-31 5 2 44 62 10.47254/insaniah.v5i2.174 Relevance of Wording and Relevance of Meaning On Waqf Ikhtiyārī in Surah al-Qāri‘aṯ
This study was conducted to examine the function of the relevance of wording and meaning in surah al-Qāri‘aṯ. This study also focuses on the function reasonableness about the relevance of the wording and meaning in dividing a surah into several segments, then in stipulating the law of Waqf at the end of each segment. The question about an extent of a person’s dependence on the laws of Waqf which have been decided by the scholars will be answered by this study. The method used is qualitative libraries that involve data collection and analysis. The accumulated data are in the form of descriptive and these involve writing and video records. These data will be analysed using content analysis methods that involve description and interpretation with evidence. The study findings show that the relevance of wording and meaning could be implemented in dividing surah al-Qāri‘aṯ into four segments. These findings also prove that law of Waqf can be decided, even without first referring to the rullings that have been decided by past scholars. The uniqueness of the implementation of these two relatedities in a surah is that it provides thorough understanding prior to the law stipulation of Waqf, whether in ra’si āyaṯ or at the end of the segment.
AL-ISMA'ILI MURSYID ROSDI AZHAR MUHAMMAD ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2022-10-31 2022-10-31 5 2 63 75 10.47254/insaniah.v5i2.202
